The Berlin Wall. A Divided World: the exhibition that captivated Madrid and Paris arrives in Barcelona
Thirty-five years after its fall, the Berlin Wall remains one of the most powerful symbols of the 20th century. Its story, marked by division, surveillance, and the longing for freedom, comes back to life in The Berlin Wall. A Divided World, an international exhibition that, after its success in Paris and Madrid, now lands in Barcelona, where it will open its doors on 7 November at Espacio Inmersa Barcelona.
A journey to the heart of the Cold War
The exhibition offers a chronological tour lasting about an hour and a half, inviting visitors to explore three complementary dimensions: first, Berlin as the epicentre of the confrontation between two irreconcilable ideological blocs; second, the intimate stories of families and friends separated for three decades; and finally, the global perspective of a conflict that defined the geopolitics of the past century.
The starting point is striking: six original fragments of the Wall, nearly ten metres long, welcome visitors and set the tone for an experience that combines history, memory, and emotion.

Memory made tangible: silent witnesses of a divided Berlin
The exhibition brings together more than 200 original pieces from over twenty international institutions, including the Berlin Wall Foundation and the Allied Museum. Fragments of the Wall, smuggled objects used by Berliners to communicate across the border, propaganda materials, espionage instruments, and items related to the nuclear threat form a material narrative that reconstructs daily life in a city split in two.
Each object serves as a gateway to the tensions and hopes of an era. Through these artefacts, visitors can understand not only the repression imposed by the GDR regime but also the acts of civic resistance that gradually eroded the system until its collapse in 1989.
“A unique retrospective that combines emotion, historical rigour, and reflection on universal values such as freedom and coexistence.”
