Innovation and tradition come together at the Maestranza in Seville
History and innovation go hand in hand with the arrival of Clorian as the official ticketing platform for the Real Maestranza de Caballería bullring in Seville, with the aim of transforming the experience of visiting this historic bullring. In fact, it is the first customer in the Andalusian capital.
An icon of Sevillian culture
The Plaza de Toros de la Real Maestranza de Caballería de Sevilla is much more than just a bullfighting arena; it is a symbol of Andalusian cultural heritage. Inaugurated in 1761, it is one of the oldest and most prestigious bullrings in the bullfighting world and a visit to it will take you on a journey through history and the art of bullfighting.
The bullring not only hosts bullfights, but you can also find different areas of the Bullfighting Museum inside. Here you can see exhibitions of costumes, capes, historical posters, paintings and even sculptures related to bullfighting.
Specifically, during your visit you can visit the following areas:
- THE PAINTINGS ROOM: The Paintings Room brings together a collection of oil paintings from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries that make up a collection of paintings on bullfighting themes of great importance, mainly from the Romantic period. Scenes in the countryside and in the bullring, bullfighters and characters related to the world of bullfighting.
- PRINT ROOM: The Print Room houses a select repertoire of prints, lithographs and engravings. Practically all the historical bullfighting series of the 18th and 19th centuries are represented, including one of the earliest known images of a bullfighting performance, “Corrida caballeresca”, by J. Stradan (1578). In the adjoining room there are twelve prints of Francisco de Goya’s “Tauromaquia”, from the third edition of this legendary series of etchings, produced in Paris in 1876.
- EXHIBITION HALL: The tour of the bullring is complemented by a visit to the Exhibition Hall, which is made up of two clearly differentiated sectors. The first sector contains an exhibition of paintings and a selection of the bullfighting prints belonging to the collection of the Real Maestranza, one of the most important in the world. These rooms were inaugurated by Their Royal Highnesses the Prince and Princess of Asturias on 21st November 2008.
- COGIDA DE MUERTE (Pepe Hillo): This is followed by a series of 19th century bullfighting-themed paintings, such as “Cogida de muerte de Pepe Hillo”, by Eugenio Lucas Velázquez (1817- 1870), and a section dedicated to bullfighting during the times of Belmonte and Joselito el Gallo, with bronze works by Mariano Benlliure and other authors, as well as different bullfighting posters. The tour ends with the more modern collection, a varied repertoire of bullfighting imaginary: bullfighters’ costumes, capes, posters, bulls’ heads and paintings by contemporary artists.
